Sue and Debbie’s Story

Sue and Debbie are 2nd year mature students studying part-time for Foundation Degrees in Management at the University of Chichester.
They both work for West Sussex County Council who funds their course, as well as allowing them time off for their studies. As they are studying part time, the course should take them about 3 years to complete. Neither Sue nor Debbie went to University when they first left school and are enjoying the opportunity to return to study now.
They especially like the way in which the course is relevant to the paid work that they do. They have met lots of new people and have enjoyed sharing ideas with them. Sue particularly enjoyed the business law module. They have found the university supportive, and their tutors easy to approach with any concerns.
They have to go to the Bognor Regis campus once a week or fortnight, and they also study at home. Because they have to combine this with paid employment, they’ve found that it’s important to be good at managing their time. Debbie finds she studies best in the evenings, while Sue prefers working during the day.
Debbie hopes that the qualification will improve her promotion prospects. She feels that the course has not only strengthened her existing knowledge and taught her new things but has also improved her self confidence, including her ability to interact with new people.
Sue thinks the course has opened up her natural curiosity to find out more and is planning to start a practitioners certificate in NLP (Neural Linguistic Programming) in the autumn.
