Patrik’s Story

Patrik

Patrik Bachtiger
Medicine (MB BSBSc)
University College London (UCL)
Ex-Durrington High School and Worthing College student
Age: 19

Patrik is the first person in his family to go to university. Aimhigher Sussex helped Patrik in a number of ways. He says “without it I would have found getting to where I am now a lot harder. Aimhigher sponsored my place at a summer school at Imperial College when I was 16, they helped me out financially with open days and gave me loads of advice via my careers tutor”.

When he was 16, Patrik went to an Aimhigher Summer School at Imperial College where he became “inspired and 100% determined to study a science degree”. He decided to study Medicine and enjoys his course at UCL, despite the immense pressures of being a medical student, e.g. exams and “having more lectures in a day than some courses have in a week”.

Patrik enjoys studying in London as it gives him access to the best hospitals and medical bodies as well as the incredible diversity of the new friends you make. He is involved in a number of Student Union societies: Medicins Sans Frontiers, RAG and fencing.

When he graduates, Patrik wants to become a doctor – as he is interested in international health, he is also hoping to take an interconnected BSc in International Health.
