Emily’s Story

Emily

Emily Staffiere
BA English
University of Cambridge
Ex-Bexhill College student
Age: 18

Aimhigher helped Emily decide to go to university. She found the student finance information provided by Aimhigher Sussex very useful, as was the information about life at university. “It alleviated my concerns about living away from home for the first time and helped me to manage my financial situation appropriately.”

Being passionate about literature has meant that studying a degree in English has deepened her understanding of the subject as well as reinforcing her desire to go on to a career in education. Emily thinks that “living away from home is certainly an utterly new experience for me, and a very exciting one. It has encouraged me to live, work and think independently and has even at this stage furnished me with skills that will be useful on a longer term basis.” However, she does miss living by the sea!

Emily writes for several magazines as well as participating in the wider participation scheme at Cambridge that encourages people from broader backgrounds to apply to Cambridge.

When she graduates, Emily hopes to embark on further study and a career as an academic in higher education.
