Laroshi’s Story

Laroshi

Laroshi is 21 and currently in her 2nd year of a Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism Management at The University of Brighton.

She was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Italy, where she took AS Levels in French, Italian and English. In her first year, she was in classes for 6 months and on placement for 6 months. When she was in classes, she was expected to be on campus 4 days a week and had lots of assignments to complete.

There were 20 students in her class and she found the tutors easy to approach with any concerns or problems.

She spent her placement at Gatwick Airport as a check in agent for Thompson and First Choice which she really enjoyed.

After her placement, she had to write an assignment showing how she had put tasks and theories into practice through her work experience. This included tasks such as dealing with complaints and making travel arrangements on behalf of passengers with disabilities.

Laroshi has really enjoyed the work experience that this course has given her. She is planning to study for another year in order to top up to a BA (Bachelor of Arts degree) and is then hoping to find work at an airport or to work in a hotel with the aim of managing one at some point in the future.

Her course has covered running a small business, which would help her with this. She is especially interested in the issue of sustainable tourism.
