Healthcare Skills Festival 2009
5 major universities from across the South East, NHS professionals and 2 FE colleges all joined forces with Aimhigher. The aim was to bring a vibrant, action-packed and hands-on skills festival to 200 Year 10 students, in the inspiring setting of the largest leisure centre in the South East.
The 10 schools participating were:
- Varndean School
- Falmer High School
- Angmering Community College
- Filsham Valley School
- Patcham High School
- Portslade Community College
- King’s Manor Community College
- Hove Park School
- Thomas Bennett Community College
- Warwick School, Surrey
Students spent two and a half hours circulating through 4 workshops and half an hour in the Careers Clinic, talking to admissions tutors and healthcare professionals.
Workshops included:
- Occupational Therapy, provided by the West Sussex County Council
- Radiography and Physiotherapy, provided by St Georges Hospital and Kingston University
- Sports Medicine, provided by the Chelsea School, University of Brighton
The day evaluated well with all partners and schools requesting a repeat event in 2010.
