Karen has a BA (Hons) in English Literature and an MA in English and American Literature. She wanted to be French when she was younger. She is scared of rats and wasps. She loves world cinema – especially low budget independent movies. Her favourite book is The Shipping News and her favourite food is anything Thai or Vietnamese. She feels her greatest achievements have been going to uni against the odds and her two wonderful sons. She’d like to spend every day swimming, eating and reading, preferably from a villa in the South of France. She loved everything about university: the independence, the freedom, the people, and the ability to study a subject she loved. She loves her job because she was the first person in her family to ever go to university. Going to university opened up a whole new world for her and she feels it’s very important to encourage other people to take up higher education.
